Beaver Dam Repair

The beavers appear to have temporarily left this dam
Here we are adding reinforcement and rock material. We added rock and vine maple  stalks to encourage the beavers to return this fall

The 8 acre lake is pretty empty in the summer of 2004. That Fall, the beavers took over from our repair and quickly had the lake full and the dam at capacity, holding back about a 4-5 foot head.

A year later a new blowout! A 15 foot wide section about twenty feet north of the first break.  Here's a shot of stage I of the repair. We've driven steel fence posts into the clay bottom.

October 2005... Here Dave is floating a cedar log across the gap. The repair plan calls for two logs and then rocks to fill in the bottom under the logs.

Mark Florence (Earl's Grandson) strikes the end of the 2nd log to drive it into the opposite bank

Nov 2007 The dam has been taken over by a beaver family and is actively being worked. Picture captured by our Game Camera
