Lake Havasu Balloon Festival January 2020

We drove up from Phoenix to have a look at Lake Havasu City's claim to fame, the London Bridge ...more

Nice walk along the lake edge with restaurants and shops

More shops
The 45 mile long lake/reservoir is formed by Parker Dam  on the Colorado River

Getting silly at the hat store

This what a desert lake looks like
There is a lot of controversy and fear about storing water in the desert
...more

Rock formation near Needles California
Balloon festival didn't start until 4pm so we drove up to Laughlin Nevada for lunch

This Laughlin Casino had an interesting theme

The inside looked dated, gaudy and worn.
We drove up the street to the Aquarius for their buffet

Colorado River  was slow and lazy through this stretch
That's Arizona in the background

Back at the Balloon Festival
The weather turned a bit cloudy. Their only cloudy day in January!

Walked around and looked at the vendors
This UTV was $37,000 ...more

Country Western band view the sound man

Waiting for the big balloon flyover

Still waiting for the balloons
Here's a vendor with sports team merchandise. They even had stained glass windows with your favorite team, $70

Another vendor
It all looked like expensive yunk

Ultra light flyover
Then we heard the Balloons were cancelled due to wind

Night Show

Returned after dinner to see the night show
Note the champagne bottle balloon

Last photo before sunset

It was quite dramatic

It was only a night "glow" show
Balloons are VFR only

This one was tied to their pickup truck
Note the taught rope

Any hard surface works for a blur-free night shot

Balloon ride we took with Dave's Dad for his 94th birthday
