Culvert Replacement

Earl standing on one side of the washed out road. This is our only means to access the back of the property.

The beaver just swam by and made a hand gesture!

Here's a shot of the area we've dug out with the backhoe and by hand.  Note the spring-fed water system line upper center.

...Well the beavers really did it to us this time! The beaver detector didn't work! At least it worked for a while. The plan here is to dig out a new ditch for a new 20ft piece of culvert. We'll stuff one end of the culvert with 4" pieces of white pipe each with a 90 degree bend glued onto them.  This end will be placed on the upstream end and the idea is that the beaver will not be able to clog the 90 degree "down" angles.

Fall 2007 Update
We've found that this culvert is a "Fish Barrier" even though we have never seen any fish in this drainage!

Here's a close-up of the culvert with the five 4" drains inserted in the end. The idea here is to keep the beaver from filling the culvert with sticks and debris. The 4" pipes with the 90 degree bends should keep debris out of the culvert, while allowing water to drain. Time will tell
